Schäfers Hof Osterwieck

Short facts

  • Osterwieck

Schäfers Hof with its ten-sided pigeon tower is always worth a visit and was used as a film set for the fairytale film "Till Eulenspiegel" in 2014.

But it is not just the late medieval listed farmstead, with its main house dating back to 1527, that makes the place so attractive.

As part of two international work camps, young people from all over the world created a cottage garden modelled on the historical one under expert guidance. Four square patches of boxwood, framed by rose arches and planted in different ways, were created. One half of the garden is a meadow orchard. The garden is cultivated using organic methods. There is also a flowering meadow with an insect hotel. Part of the farm garden was designed as a sculpture garden.

With the founding of the Schäfers Hof e.V. support association in 2019, a multifaceted cultural life has been developing here for many years. Its main objective remains the further development of the historic farmstead into a future pilgrims' hostel. Since 2018, Schäfers Hof has also been home to the "Via Romea - Path of Encounters" association. Pilgrims travelling on this route from Stade to Rome stop here.

Another special feature is the cultivation of the Osterwiecker Rose (Rose King of Africa - Ludwig Taschner; formerly Osterwiecker), which can be found in the entrance area of the farmstead.
