Getting around

In the Harz Mountains you can also get arround without a car. In the midst of the mountains there is an extensive public transport network of bus routes and regional trains serve major towns at the periphery.

Of course, the steam trains of the Harz Narrow-Gauge Railways can also be used as a means of transport. The timetables are specially designed for hikers.

HATIX - The Harz Mountains Travel Card

HATIX - Logo

Since 1 January 2020, HATIX has been valid as a ticket on all public buses and trams in the districts of Harz, Mansfeld-Südharz and recently also in the districts of Goslar and Göttingen (in the districts of Mansfeld Südharz and Göttingen, HATIX is only valid on selected lines).

Many starting points of attractive hiking and adventure tours as well as other sights can be easily reached by public bus - without having to search for a parking lot and the tiresome walks back to the starting point.

The bus connections valid for HATIX can be found under the travel information INSA. After entering the place of departure and arrival, click on "Options". Here you can switch off the blue and green highlighted "train" under "Services". Then click on "Search" and the bus connections valid for HATIX will be displayed.

  • For overnight guests, the completed guest card or the completed registration form handed out by your host serves as the Harz Mountains Travel Card HATIX.

  • It is valid during your entire stay for all persons noted on it.
(Attention: The fields „total number of persons“, „arrival date“ and „departure date“ must be filled in).

  • Holders of an Annual Guest Card from selected local authorities in the districts of Goslar and Göttingen can also use buses and trams free of charge for the number of journeys indicated on the Annual Guest Card.

  • Guests who are exempt from paying guest fees or spa fees do not receive a guest card or registration form with the HATIX logo, nor do they receive a ticket.

  • Excluded are special busses as well as the following: Anrufsammeltaxi (AST), Anruflinientaxi (ALT), DB Regio, Abelio Verkehr and the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways.
