Hike from Auerhahn to Bockswiese village. Back and forth between the ponds in the Auerhahn Cascade.

The Auerhahn Cascade in the old Bockswiese mining area is a real masterpiece.

The group of ponds is in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz and is the largest pond installation in the whole of the Upper Harz Water Management System.

From the year 1680 onward the ponds supplied the mines in Bockswiese with water for their water wheels. The six ponds are almost triangular and are located one below the other like a staircase.

The walk is 6 km long. Information boards along the path explain why six ponds were built here. And how the Upper Harz water storage ponds were used to supply water to the mines.
