This varied route in the midst of the UNESCO World Heritage Site opens up the largest cascade of ponds in the entire Upper Harz Water Management system.
The six ponds, which look as if they were punched out of the forest, were built around 1680 to supply the numerous mines in Bockswiese. Together they hold about half a million cubic meters of water. The scenically appealing path leads from the Auerhahn pond along historic water-carrying and dry ditches to the Grumbach ponds and the raft ponds near Bockswiese.
