The start of both the short and long distances is at the Sports Park Teufelstal in Bad Grund. Slightly ascending, the routes follow the Teufelstal to the Eisenstein tunnel. The path then turns sharply right above the mining town through the so-called Paradise, until crossing the main road.
Here the paths of the two runs separate.
In the valley, the route goes uphill, passing the former Wiemannsbucht mine on a wide path to the Schulte tunnel and then a trail up to the Taternplatz. After a quick flat section, a trail leads to a quiet lake in the middle of the forest. Narrow paths in the deep dark Harz forest lead to the ruins of the former Silbernaal mine through the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Harz Water Management System. After about 6.5 km, the first refreshment station awaits the runners in the Innerste valley. Through the forests, the path then leads up to the charcoal burner's hut at Kaysereiche and over the Kalte Born to the Gewitterplatz. Now follows a real trail highlight with the Moosstieg on the way down. At Waldwinkel at km 13, the long distance rejoins the short distance route.
From now on, the route continues together, going down the Kuhtrift into the town, past the Knesebeck shaft, and up again to Fritzes Ruh. The routes continue following the path of the dwarf king Hübich to the Squirrel Place in the Eichelbach valley. Here the main road is crossed again, and another refreshment point awaits at km 15.5 (short distance km 5.5). The route then leads up to the Knollen to the Green Fir, above the Kelch valley, on the horizontal path. From here, the path leads into the World Forest, where trees from all over the world have their home and shine in the Indian summer in autumn. From afar, you can already see the millions-of-years-old coral reef of the Hübichenstein, where witches and devils meet on Walpurgis Night to fly together to the Brocken. The finale then passes by the Iberg and speeds back into the Teufelstal where the witches are waiting to start a finisher dance with you.
Look forward to a great route, passing witnesses of mining art and world cultural heritage, following the traces of witches, kings, and ghosts through the mystical autumnal Harz landscape.
