The only monographic museum displaying one of the world's most important stocks of printmaking devoted, in particular, to the works of Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956), attracts art lovers to Quedlinburg.
The museum building, blends harmoniously into the old town centre, just of the main road. The collection was made possible by the permanent loan from Dr Hermann Klumpp, who was a close friend of Feininger and his wife Julia. It was the personal commitment of Doctor Hermann Klumpp to the couple that we can thank for the works surviving the Second World War, and have been on public display since 1986. The biography of the German-American Feininger is closely connected to the history of Europe, his style influenced by the teachings of Bauhaus masters and contemporary artists. Masterpieces such as the self- portrait "Vollersroda I", are supplemented by works from artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Karl Schmidt-Rotluff, Paul Klee and Emil Nolde.
