You can experience an “Indian summer” not only in North America, but also in the Southern Harz region.
The Ahornpark in Ilfeld, with its many international maple species, is a gem whose vibrant colors are particularly striking in the fall. The maple collection comprises around 270 trees, including some very old specimens such as a native sycamore maple that is about 140 years old and boasts a massive crown. The Förderverein Ahornpark Ilfeld e.V. is dedicated to maintaining the park. Almost every newly planted tree has one or more sponsors. Often, the trees are also dedicated to a special occasion, such as a wedding or a birth. The park, which is open to the public, attracts visitors not only with its variety of maple species but also with a sweeping view of the surrounding landscape.
