Heinz Sielmann|Nature Adventure Center

Short facts

  • Duderstadt

The Natur-Erlebniszentrum Gut Herbigshagen is situated in the middle of a gently rolling landscape in the southern Harz foothills, surrounded by meadows with old fruit trees and open fields.

What began in 1996 as a simple farmhouse has been continuously expanded over the years. The Heinz Sielmann Natur-Erlebniszentrum Gut Herbigshagen near Duderstadt is now a recognised Regionales Umweltbildungszentrum (RUZ) (Regional Environmental Education Centre) of the state of Lower Saxony and offers a wide range of adventure stations for young and old: an interactive nature trail with a farm garden, bee house, insect nesting wall, wetland biotope and fallow deer enclosure, the Ki.KA tree house, an organic farm with rare domestic and farm animal breeds and much more.
Gut Herbigshagen enables visitors to experience nature conservation in a tangible way. Because preserving and promoting biodiversity is one of the central tasks of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation. "Vielfalt ist unsere Natur" (diversity is our nature) is the motto of the foundation, which was founded by Heinz and Inge Sielmann in 1994. The connection between nature conservation and environmental education is the core of the foundation's educational guidelines and is particularly well expressed in the nature experience programmes "Schulbauernhof" (School Farm) and "Tage voller Vielfalt" (Days of Diversity).
