Waldgaststätte Rinderstall

Short facts

The "cattle shed" building served as a dwelling for the shepherd and as a stable for the cattle.

The "cattle shed" building served as a home for the shepherd and as a stable for the cattle. The shepherd's family also kept a few cows in a separate section of the barn for their own use and to provide a fresh milk drink for passing hikers. They were always welcome here, and soon there were more hikers than cattle to feed on some days.

The restaurant seats 95 and the beer garden, in the middle of the national park nature, seats another 120. There is also a playground for younger guests. Its location is a particularly charming area of the upper Oder Valley, surrounded by mountains, forests and clear streams, in the middle of the Harz National Park, at 475 m above sea level.

The Waldgaststätte is located away from any traffic noise between the mountain town of St. Andreasberg and Braunlage. Thanks to the National Park and the Harzklub, the hiking trails to the Waldgaststätte Rinderstall are well signposted from all sides and offer a pure nature experience.
