The hut restaurant at the Rodelhaus Braunlage is over 100 years old. In a unique forest location at the middle station of the Wurmberg cable car, owner Judith Bothe and her team have been continuing this tradition since the end of 2008. They take great care to ensure that the animals used in the Rodelhaus have enjoyed a dignified life and that the potatoes, vegetables and juices come from sustainable agriculture. Dairy products and products such as mustard, salt, spirits and wine are also of regional origin. And anything that does not grow in the Harz region, such as coffee or cocoa, is at least sourced from fair trade.
Since 2013, the Slow Food philosophy has been followed here. This promotes environmentally friendly agriculture and fishing, species-appropriate livestock farming, traditional food craftsmanship and aims to preserve the diversity of regional flavors.
This is reflected in the Rodelhaus menu. The beef mince from Harz Red Mountain cattle comes from the typical Harz producer Brockenbauer Uwe Thielecke from Tanne, the specialty beer "Harzer Dunkel" from the Altenauer Brauerei, which has also been awarded the regional brand, or the curry for the currywurst from the Altenau herb park. Together with Imker Enrico Kretschmar - his honeys also carry the Typisch Harz seal - Mrs. Bothe produces her own honey - right on her doorstep in the forest on the Wurmberg.
For visitors who want to find out more, take a look at the "Genussmacher" guide from Rodelhaus Braunlage. It provides information about the origin and suppliers of the food. The Rodelhaus Braunlage can be reached after a half-hour ascent towards the middle station of the Wurmberg cable car or you can take the opportunity to take a ride on one of the gondolas.
