The Bad Sachsa town encyclopaedia records that in 1845, some townspeople, in particular the mayor at the time, Scheidel, persuaded the farmer August Kohlhaase to build a house high up on the Ravensberg and to turn the top of the mountain into an excursion destination. Once permission was granted, a small wooden house with a beer bar was erected.
Five years later, a stone house with a tower was built. In the following decades, the building was extended and redesigned as a hotel several times until it burned down completely on Christmas Eve 1962. The mountain inn was then rebuilt as it is today.
The Ravensberg offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Stöberhai, Wurmberg, Brocken, Kyffhäuser, Hainleite and the surrounding Harz villages.
