Official route description - Stage 21 The approximately 2,200-kilometer pilgrim route "VIA ROMEA GERMANICA" from Stade to Rome on its route between Neustadt / Harz and Nordhausen.
The starting point in Neustadt is St. Georg Church. From there the route leads from the forests of the Harz to the open landscape of the southern Harz. After hiking through the southern Harz landscape, Nordhausen is reached.

We start at St. Georg Church in Neustadt / Harz. The "Steinstraße" and then the "Torstraße" lead us over the state road to the left into "Rüdigsdorfer Weg". After a right curve, it becomes a dirt road. Then it goes up to a wooded hill. After crossing it, we go down into a valley only to ascend another ridge immediately. Through a wooded area, the path leads us to Rüdigsdorf.
Through Rüdigsdorf straight ahead ("Wolfsgasse", "Winkelberg") and then further along the state road towards Nordhausen. After a long right curve on the state road, we turn left onto a dirt road. The path then goes uphill again. At the top, we follow the ridge path and then descend the mountain again. Shortly before Nordhausen, the path turns into a concrete path and then a street ("Am Kuhberg"). Continuing on "Gumpestraße" we reach federal road 4, which we follow to the left towards the center on "Philosophenweg" and "Wallrothstraße".
We then turn slightly right onto "Altendorfer Stiege" street. We reach the center via the streets "Altendorf", "Barfüßerstraße", "Kranichstraße" and "Engelsburg". At the town hall, we reach the destination of the route.

Neustadt im Harz is only a few kilometers from Nordhausen. Through this town in the southern Harz, Neustadt is connected to the motorway network (BAB 39) and the federal road network (B4).
