In search of the Pochknabe Tom, Josephine and Konrad follow a circular route through a managed woodland near Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Along the route, the forest thins out in several places and offers views over the Upper Harz mountains. They discover, among other things, the traces of former mining activity, such as the restoration areas of the former Clausthal lead smelter covered with heather, or the headframe of the Ottiliae Shaft. At the halfway point, they take a break at the Hermann-Kerl Hut, where they meet the founder of the Harz Nature Park. At two activity stations, the two children test the weight of various tree species and try out a wildlife track memory game.
The entrance to the approximately 4 km circular route is located near the Handermann riding stable. An information board with an overview map greets you in sight of the parking lot running parallel to Marie-Hedwig Street, marking the course of the nature experience trail. The path leads past the Hermann-Kerl Hut and from there via the Roseneck garden colony back to the starting point.
Shortly after the “Hunting” station, the path leads out of the forest towards B242. The next station “Ottiliae Shaft” is already in sight there. The way back to the starting point leads through the small woodland to the Roseneck garden colony and not via the B242. The federal road is not suitable for pedestrians due to the lack of a sidewalk!
At the last station of the nature experience trail, Josephine and Konrad learn where they can find Tom, the Pochknabe. To find out why he is a hero, they visit the Robinson playground, a mining-themed adventure playground in the north of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Here, a former quarry provides the setting for countless adventures.
B241 to Clausthal-Zellerfeld, southern town entrance, enter via Osteröder Straße into Marie-Hedwig Street.
