Monastery Discovery Route in Walkenried

The round walk can be uneven or difficult to manage depending on the weather. However, most of the stations are easily accessible in the town center.

Plan a visit to the Cistercian Museum Kloster Walkenried and then enjoy coffee & cake at the Monastery Café!

From northern Germany, you can best reach the monastery town of Walkenried via the A7 motorway. Take the Seesen/Harz exit and then follow the B 243 to the exit for Walkenried.

From the south, you come easiest via the A38 to the southern Harz. Near Nordhausen, leave the motorway at the Großwechsungen junction and then also follow the B 243 northwest to the exit for Walkenried.

A large free parking lot is available in the immediate vicinity of the monastery. Two charging stations are available in the parking lot. Two electric vehicles can be charged simultaneously with a power of 22 kW per hour each. The charging process is started using an access card from ladenetz.de. Alternatively, a charging card from HarzEnergie can be borrowed from our visitor service (against a deposit).

Walkenried is located on the Northeim – Herzberg – Nordhausen railway line. Trains run hourly. It is about a 10-minute walk from Walkenried station to the museum. There is a direct connection between Göttingen and Walkenried every 2 hours and every two hours with a transfer at Northeim.
