The starting point of the circular hike is the tourist information office in Hasselfelde. The path leads you to the Harzer Schmalspurbahn station (locomotive exhibition) about 300 meters away and past the Blumenau monument. Dr. Hermann Blumenau was the founder of the large city Blumenau in Brazil. An exhibition on the history can be found in the museum of the same name in the tourist information office Hasselfelde.
From there, keep right and turn right again behind the hardware store towards the forest swimming pool and the Rotacker district.
You hike along meadows and shady paths (1.1 km) past the barbecue area with a historic charcoal burner’s hut to the idyllic forest swimming pool and the adjacent Hoyerteich pond. The Hoyerteich, with its beautiful water lilies, invites you to relax on the benches.
At the end of the Hoyerteich, cross the B81 into the Rotacker residential area. Follow the yellow square through the residential area. At the end of the road, keep right and reach the forest car park Ferienpark Blauvogel.
From there, turn left onto the field path and continue to follow the yellow square. After approx. 1 km you cross a paved path over a small swamp biotope on both sides. From here our hiking trail leads slightly uphill to the forest road.
Keep left there and after about 100 m reach the “Hahnefurt intersection” with a small bench for a short rest before continuing uphill.
From the halfway point of the route you can already see the Carlshausturm. Follow the route to the viewpoint and tower. Your path leads past an old hunting hut. From here a steep, 340 m long ascent awaits you to the plateau of the Carlshausturm, the highest point of the hike at 626 m above sea level. Stamp collectors of the Harzer Wandernadel will find stamp point no. 51 opposite the tower. A weather shelter as well as some benches invite you to rest.
The observation tower is accessible free of charge. Provided you are not afraid of heights, after climbing 150 metal steps and reaching the upper viewing platform (30 m high), it offers a fantastic panoramic view over the entire eastern Harz including the Brocken panorama as well as the view opposite to the Josephskreuz and Kyffhäuser.
The hike leads back via the Radeweghaus. From the Carlshausturm, first go back about 2 km on the same route to the “Hahnefurt intersection.”
Here, turn right along the forest road through an old mixed beech forest, past forest meadows and wildlife feeding areas to the rest area “Radeweghaus” at the B81 (1.4 km). After crossing the B81, follow a small path for approx. 50 m along the federal road to the left to the forest road, where you keep right. After another 850 m you come to a forest path intersection in the forest village “Tänniche” (Old Beeches), where you follow the yellow and red point trail markers to the left for 1.6 km to the weather shelter at the ski trail gate.
On the last 1.6 km to the tourist information office in Hasselfelde, there is another view on the left side of the Brocken panorama through an unusual Brocken telescope.
