With beautiful views into the valley and of the Brocken, the route goes around the Innerste reservoir.

The main street in Lautenthal is named after the miner Kaspar Bitter. Around 1530 he discovered a rich ore vein on the Kranichsberg. This was the beginning of mining in Lautenthal and the foundation for the development of the town into a Free Mining Town. Today, the officially recognized spa town is one of five districts of the city of Langelsheim and offers its visitors, besides a mining museum, about 200 km of well-maintained hiking trails through the beautiful Harz forest.
