The adventure island above Osterode/Lerbach focuses on the long tradition of the Kiepenfrauen, who have made an important contribution to supplying the Upper Harz for centuries.
An attractive memorial has been created for them at the historic ascent into the Harz Mountains. Hikers can take a seat right next to a pannier woman and rest with her. Or, by lifting a 40 kg pannier, they can feel how heavy the energetic women, popularly known as "Harz camels", had to carry.
