The organic farm Düna has set itself the goal of preserving the cultural landscape, biodiversity and livestock breeds of the region
The Wehmeyers' Red Mountain cattle live in so-called suckler cow herds, which means that the animals live together with the mother cow for 10-11 months before they are separated. In the summer, the animals graze on the fresh Harz meadows, and spend the winter in a large and bright outdoor climate-controlled barn. The animals are fed exclusively with herb-rich mountain meadow hay from the Upper Harz and grass silage from the red clover meadows of the foothills of the Harz. The slaughter bulls are also fed with the farm's own organic grain.
The meat of the cattle is characterized by a particularly high quality. Short meat fibers and a high proportion of muscle meat make the meat particularly tender. Another quality-determining factor is the maturing time. The beef is given 10 days to develop its natural flavor
