Benneckenstein Forest Theatre

Short facts

  • Oberharz am Brocken OT…

This traditional natural theatre in the Harz Mountains, situated in the triangle of three countries between Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony and Thuringia, has been lying dormant for many years.

Built in 1952 on the initiative of the citizens of Benneckenstein and successfully used for many years by the then municipal theatres of Nordhausen and Halberstadt, it fell more and more into oblivion after its renovation in 1991 awakening only once a year for the traditional Benneckensteiner Finkenwettbewerb (finch competition). Now, the association Kulturrevier Harz e.V. took up the fate of the Waldbühne and will now present contemporary, modern professional spoken, musical and dance theatre with a local connection in the form of its own productions and guest performances every summer.
