The Altenau ski area "Auf der Rose" has a pony lift. The flat and wide pistes are particularly suitable for beginners, whether skiers or snowboarders.
The Oberharz region offers cross-country skiers a large selection of trails. Altenau's network of trails leads through the beautiful landscape on the edge of the Harz National Park. All levels of difficulty are represented. Thanks to two connecting trails, it is possible to switch to the trail networks of Torfhaus and Stieglitzecke. Winter hikers and snowshoe hikers can also explore the surroundings of the climatic health resort.
