Bergstadt Lautenthal

The over 800 year old small mountain town Lautenthal is a nationally recognized health resort situated in the romantic Innerstetal, surrounded by beautiful mixed forests and green meadows.

Here is the place where hikers, nature lovers and recreation seekers can experience the pristine nature of the Harz at first hand. A 200 km long network of hiking trails leads visitors through unspoilt natural landscape, along crystal clear streams, across flowering meadows and through the fresh coolness of the coniferous and deciduous forests. On guided tours, such as the Herbs Walk or the Evening and Torch Hike, visitors will learn interesting facts about the Harz and its nature.

The Mining Museum Lautenthals Glück ranks among the oldest and still drivable mines in the Upper Harz and gives visitors the opportunity to discover the mining history of Lautenthal. In pit trains, you go down the main shaft to the underground St.-Barbara Chapel, the drill site, the old mining place and other mining stations. In the 450-year-old water course of the silver mine, the former ore shipping is reconstructed on a 150-metre-long cruise. The romantic Erzkahnhafen, also called “Venice Underground”, is the venue for underground festivals and events.

Also worth visiting is the Brewery Museum. In an elaborately decorated half-timbered house, the visitor can gain an insight into the work of the brewers while walking through the rooms.

The Innerste Reservoir, which is only a few minutes away from Lautenthal, offers a variety of water sports and free time activities. In the exceptionally soft and cool water, swimming, sailing, surfing, fishing, rowing and navigating pedal boats are enjoyable things to do. Outside the water you can relax while sunbathing or use the promenade at the dam for skating, jogging or cycling. The camping site located on a headland is a great way to enjoy a holiday by the water.

A forest pool with beach volleyball court, a fitness trail and the entry into the trail network of the Volksbank Arena Harz offer further interesting opportunities to get active in Lautenthal. In winter, the small mountain town welcomes its guests with well-groomed cross-country ski trails, several toboggan slopes and the possibility to walk through the snowy landscape.
