How has mining changed the landscape around Goslar? You can explore this on this circular route.
The circular route is 6 kilometers long and connects the old town of Goslar and the former Rammelsberg ore mine. These two areas were the first to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz.
The landscape looks like a natural landscape but has changed significantly over several thousand years due to mining.
Mining at Rammelsberg ended in 1988. Nature has reclaimed many parts of the landscape. The hike passes through a landscape shaped by humans. However, it is still a hike through beautiful nature.
The highlight of the hike is the Rammelsberg visitor mine and the Herzberger pond, a beautiful forest lake with a lovely natural swimming pool.
