Follow the signage R on the green blossom leaf.
The starting point of the hike is at the riding hall on Halberstädter Straße. Follow the paved field path northwards to the forest edge. Here, the circular hiking trail branches off to the left. In spring, a detour to the right from the circular trail to the yellow-blooming Adonis flowers on the vineyard is worthwhile. It is one of the largest occurrences of this protected plant species.
The Börnecke circular hiking trail now continues beneath the ridge that lies on your right side. Pine forest and root-covered sandy ground with heather cover shape the beautiful natural panorama. Behind the riding arena, turn right and ascend steeply for about 200 meters along a small forest clearing up to the Tönnigsberg. At the next crossroads, you could continue straight ahead to the Langenstein-Zwieberge memorial site, which is located a short distance on the backside of the Tönnigsberg. However, our circular trail leads left here for about 1.4 km along the ridge path of the wooded Tönnigsberg. A narrow path through the forest takes interested hikers to the right to a memorial stone erected in memory of a slain shepherd.
The main path leads gently downhill to a crossroads where you turn left. After a few meters, the Börnecke fields and the expanse of the Harz foothills open before you. A bench invites you to rest. The hike continues on the wide main path before you cross a small forest to your left on the marked trail.
You are now on the south side of the Börnecke Seeberg. Enjoy the sunny location and the wonderful view of the Harz mountains. A bench here invites you to rest and relax. The comfortable meadow path continues through old orchards and horse paddocks towards the village. The circular trail ends on Börnecke's Rahle Street. At the intersection, turn left onto Lange Street and then left again onto Langensteiner Street. From here, a detour to the sulfur spring is worthwhile. Walk past the small riding stable on your left, past the display board "Emperors & Kings" and you have arrived at Börnecke's most relaxing place, origin and namesake of the district: the Börnecke sulfur spring. Once a hermit settled here who was said to have performed healings at this spring. A beautiful place to pause once more and enjoy the tranquility before you return the same way along Gartenstraße to the starting point of your hike today.
