The starting point and Station 1 is the central hiking meeting point at Schlossplatz next to the model of Anhalt Castle at the castle parking lot. Here, hikers are introduced to the trail with the first information board. The trail leads through the Marstall and turns left before the castle pond onto the European long-distance path E11. After 200 m, the beginning of Meiseberger Weg is reached. From here, it goes to Stations 2 to 4 and further to the "Schirm Rest Area" trail intersection. Station 5 is found on Antoinettenweg. After crossing the Selke valley, the next destination is Station 6 behind the Selkemühle parking lot. From here, the path leads up to Hausberg. On the Herzogsweg, about 140 meters of elevation must be overcome at Station 7. Station 8 at the ruins of Anhalt Castle provides information about the history of this location. The descent back to the Selkemühle parking lot is short. Via Leimuferstraße, you reach the next station—number 9—on Hohe Warte. At the fork in Bärenlöcher path, Station 10 awaits. The path continues down into the valley and through Teichgrund to Königsbruch. Information about the quarry is provided on the board at Station 11. Along the right bank of Hirschteich, the trail returns to Ballenstedt. Here, the signs guide the Albrechtsweg past the lung clinic into the city park, where the trail ends at the Albrecht monument, the final Station 12.
From there, it is about one more kilometer back to the starting point through the city park via Lindenallee and Holsteiner Straße to Schlossplatz.
