The Woeltingerode Monastery with its famous distillery is surrounded by meadows and forests.
The visit includes a tour through the monastery church equipped with baroque furnishings as well as a distillery tour with tasting of spirited specialties in the crypt of the church. In the “Klosterkrug” and the “Klosterschenke” you can end your day in an enjoyable and relaxed way. Anyone who has tasted too much hard liquor takes a room in the monastery hotel. The converted nun cells are not lacking in comfort. The monastery was founded in 1174 and rebuilt in 1676 after it had been destroyed by a fire. To finance the construction, the resourceful abbess had the idea of distilling corn and producing high quality liqueurs. The traditional recipes are still used today in the monastery distillery. On rebuilding the monastery, it was given its remarkable Baroque character.
