The Roseburg Garden

Short facts

  • Ballenstedt OT Rieder

The Roseburg unites elements of the Italian Renaissance, Baroque and English landscape gardens.

Between Quedlinburg and Ballenstedt, just after the district of Rieder, on your left hand, discover the sandstone-coloured towers of Roseburg. Hidden behind a wall made of natural stones, visitors can only imagine what a magnificent garden awaits them here. The park includes several small buildings, caves, puttoes, sculptures and even grave stones. The numerous artefacts ad sculptures reflect unmistakably the passion of the theatre architect Bernhard Sehring (1855-1941) for collecting these stunning objects. Bernhard Sehring also designed the theatre “Of the West” in Berlin (1895/96), the Municipal Theatre Cottbus (1907/08) and the Walpurgishalle at the witches dance place in Thale. The Roseburg unites elements of the Italian Renaissance, Baroque and English landscape gardens. In addition to the observation tower, the 100m long water ways start here, richly decorated sloping to the north.
