Steam locomotive workshop

Short facts

  • Wernigerode

Visitors have the opportunity to experience the impressive technology and historical significance of the steam locomotives up close.

The experience area inside the workshop already offers many exciting insights, which will be perfectly complemented by the new outdoor area created in July 2024.

The first floor provides comprehensive information about the history of the Harz narrow-gauge railway (HSB), important milestones and extensions to the route network. The visitor gallery, a highlight of the exhibition, offers an impressive view of the workshop and the work carried out there on the steam locomotives. Digital information systems and haptic exhibits make the exhibition an interactive experience for young and old alike.

The outdoor area will delight railway enthusiasts of all ages on the subject of "steam locomotives and historical technology". This "railway learning and adventure area" offers a combination of play, learning and fun with exciting hands-on stations. The playground includes a large play area with a water play locomotive, adventure play train and educational play walls. Experience the "Brockenbande" photo point, which has been specially designed for families and children.
