The village of Darlingerode is a very special enrichment for hikers and pilgrims on the Harz Monastery Hiking Trail.
Following the village street, you will come across St. Laurentius Church, a 13th century hall church with a Romanesque core building. Its predecessor was probably a chapel from the middle of the 10th century. The proximity of Darlingerode to the Himmelpforte monastery, founded in 1253, now a deserted site near Wernigerode and located directly on the monastery hiking trail, was the reason for the special relationship between the monastery and the church. In the 15th century, the monks of the Augustinian Hermit monastery of Himmelpforte were the patrons of the church.
The church bell from 1475 was once the mass bell of Himmelpforte monastery and most likely came to Darlingerode after the Peasants' War in 1525. The belfry with this special bell, which was confiscated for melting down for war purposes and yet survived the First and Second World Wars, can be visited by appointment.
Another special feature in Darlingerode is the Komturhof of the Teutonic Order, which is located near the church and has been the home of the Förderverein zur Pflege der Heimatgeschichte und des Brauchtums Darlingerode e.V. since 1993. The first evidence of this courtyard dates back to 1468.
Readings, concerts and
other events take place in both St. Laurentius Church and the Komturhof. From spring 2024, a new stamping point
for the Harz Monastery Hiking Trail will be set up at the church.
