The “Röhrigschacht” is one of the few historic mines which provide an operational man-hoist shaft.
The Röhrigschacht in Wettelrode is one of the few show mines where you can still experience a real rope ride. Using the oldest steel shaft winding frame in operation in Germany and the original winding machine, guests travel 283m underground in the pit cage to the mine train. This takes them approx. 1000m further into a former mining field, where the history of copper slate mining can be experienced in a unique and original way! The extremely low mining depths of 40 and 80cm make it easy to understand the difficult working conditions of the miners.
The 825-year history of Mansfeld copper slate mining is presented in the above-ground museum.
In addition to the 75-minute standard guided tours, 4 - 8-hour underground tours of the old mine and the chimneys offer unforgettable, exciting impressions.
