Harz Tree Root Path

Short facts

  • Bad Harzburg

This is the first root path in the whole of Germany that is located in the immediate vicinity of a treetop path.

It includes various stations to sensitise visitors to one of the most important basic organs of a plant as well as the animal world.
The path, which was installed directly below the treetop path in the Kalter Tal, is divided into different stations. Thus, the visitor is taken via a root tunnel into the world of roots. This is followed by an exploration of the soil profile and so into the " heart " of the forest habitat.
Special attention is also paid to various beetles and insects, such as the dung beetle or the earthworm, which can be found on and in the soil and have important roles to play. Trees' statics are also taken into account, i.e. the physical forces acting on the roots, especially in extreme weather situations.
