In the land of the exotic - gardens of the 19th century

Scenic areas alternate with ornamental beds in 19th century parks; elaborate paths lead through a landscape painted with shades of green from the trees. This "tree-painting" is aided by a predilection of the period: A variety of foreign woods from Southern Europe, Asia and America, such as plane trees or acacia species, extended the "colour palette".
You can find individual examples of this period in the Harz Mountains:
An obelisk in honour of the garden's founder Johann Christian Degener and the crypt of Baron Eberhard von Bodenhausen (1866-1918), once highly regarded in the economic and cultural life of the region, are the special features of this well-kept site.
