This town museum presents a comprehensive exhibition on the most important stages of the town's history from the first recorded mention in 753 until today.
The walk-in lodge temple of the freemason lodge "Zu den drei Kleeblättern" (To the three clovers), which is located on the top floor, is unique in Germany. The lodge, founded in the 18th century, is still active in the rooms today. A small exhibition provides information on the history of Freemasonry and the Ashlersleber Loge. The Paläontologische Studiensammlung (Palaeontological Study Collection) of Prof. Dr. Martin Schmidt depicts a journey through the history of the earth, from the Cambrian 590 million years ago to the Tertiary 1.7 million years ago. Approximately 7,000 fossils and exhibits bear witness to the diversity of species in the various geological eras, e.g. a mummified ear of a mammoth.
