Schierke

Health and ski resort

Schierke is a small district of Wernigerode and lies, deeply embedded in the valley of the Cold Bode river, at an elevation of between 580 and 640 m above sea level at the foot of the legendary Mount Brocken.

Schierke offers its holidaymakers a place to relax and unwind with its beautiful natural setting in the middle of the Harz National Park. With numerous hiking, active and winter sports opportunities, Schierke's guests will find a wide range of leisure activities.

In the village, the public park with its botanical rarities and the "Alte Apotheke", the ancestral home of the famous herbal liqueur "Schierker Feuerstein", are particularly worth seeing.

On exciting hikes to Schierke's local mountain, the 1141-metre-high Brocken, or in the valley of the cold Bode river, visitors can discover Schierke's imposing cliff architecture. The Mauseklippen, the Feuersteinklippen, the Schnarcherklippen and the Ahrensklint, for example, can be explored.

A special highlight is also a ride on the Harz Narrow-gauge Railways to Mount Brocken.

Between Schierke and the Wurmberg, mountain bikers can expect an area with a number of tours of varying degrees of difficulty, steep climbs and wonderful views at the summit. There are also numerous offers for Nordic walkers and climbers in Schierke's surrounding area.

The Brocken Coaster in Schierke offers tobogganing fun for young and old all year round.

In the cold season, the winter sports resort of Schierke enchants its guests young and old with a snow-covered fairytale world. On a well-maintained network of cross-country ski trails and wonderful winter hiking paths, for example to the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains or through the Harz National Park, you can enjoy nature to the full. Winter fun is also promised by various toboggan runs in and around the village and, as a special highlight, the annual Schierke Winter Sports Weeks with an adventure programme for all generations.
