The traditional mining town of Elbingerode is protected by being at the transition of the junction between the high levels of the lower Harz to the mountainous Upper Harz.
As a state- approved health resort Elbingerode with a height of 450-480 meters above sea level has a distinct alpine climate.
Walkers, cyclists and nature lovers will find beautiful scenery; well-marked hiking trails and many bike trails, as well as interesting attractions and points of view.
A special highlight is the "Mining Historical Circular Route through the Bodfeld". Here travellers will be informed of the importance of the 1,000-year history of mining and smelting region.
A further insight into this history can be found at the Visitor mine "Three Crowns and Honour" and the show mine Büchenberg. On the underground tours of the mines, you will learn among other things about the role of mining machinery and heavy work underground.
On hot summer days, you can cool of in the natural swimming pools which are fed by the cool natural spring water. Romantically, it provides fun for all ages.
A visit to the Heimatstube, the gallery the Deaconess Mother House, or the Town Church rounds off its cultural offerings.
Many leisure activities such as miniature golf course, tennis courts, bowling alley, and in the winter, a network of trails and various sledging slopes can be enjoyed here.
