The small health resort Altenbrak is a district of the town of Thale, surrounded by green pastures and magnificent forests. It is situated in a sunny sheltered position near the Rappbode Dam in the Bode Valley.
With a low mountain range, therapeutic climate and its location in the tourist area of the Bode Valley, which is known for its numerous myths and legends, Altenbrak provides a unique holiday experience. From relaxed yet thrilling hiking trails, spa exercises and Nordic Walking routes; visitors will be sure to find something here.
Since 1951, a particular highlight of the town has been the Forest Stage, which is located on the eastern edge of Altenbrak. This natural hillside stage in the style of an ancient amphitheatre can accommodate 850 visitors and is popular, especially in the summer, as a venue for numerous cultural events. In addition to music festivals and theatre performances every year, it holds the traditional annual Harz Yodelling Contest.
The local Altenbrak History Museum has displays of historic traditions of the region based on household and farm tools, old national costumes, everyday objects and interesting photographs.
Mini golf, chess and an adventure playground ensure plenty of family fun. In the summer, take a dip in the Mountain Swimming Pool with its large lawn and playground.
