Wieda

Wieda belongs to the joint municipality of Walkenried and is surrounded by mixed and coniferous forests in the sunny southern Harz Mountains.

Hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers can experience unspoilt nature, green meadows and fragrant forests on a well-signposted network of hiking trails leading into the protected landscape areas in Wieda. Hikers are greeted here and there by the bells of the Harzer Roten Höhenvieh, a red cattle breed, only found in the Harz Mountains, which graze on the meadows along the way.
The glass and hut museum in Wieda is also worth a visit. In the glassworks section, visitors are explained Wieda's 100-year glassworks tradition and given an insight into the work and life of the glassmakers. The mining and smelting exhibition focuses on the Wieda ironworks.

The public game feeding at Stöberhai station and the "Spelle varn Schwelle" street festival, which is known far beyond the village borders, are two special highlights on the visit to the small community.

In December, countless Christmas trees and installations of the nativity scene attract visitors to Wieda on all four Advent weekends. Also winter sports are possible in the cold season. Find out more about it here: wintersport.harzinfo
