Wieda belongs to the municipality Walkenried and is surrounded by mixed and coniferous forests in the sunny-side of the South Harz.
Hikers and nature lovers can find in Wieda well-marked hiking trails through untouched nature, protected conservation areas, green meadows and fragrant woodlands. You will be warmly greeted by the sound of the bells from the Harzer Red Mountain Cattle, an ancient breed of cattle, who graze in the meadows.
Another attraction is the Glass and Steel Museum in Wieda. Over 100-years of traditional glass smelting is explained and gives you an insight into the work and lives of the glassmaker. The mining and smelting exhibition highlights the historical development of blast furnace and the Wieda ironwork.
The old train station Stoeberhai, which is now a restaurant, is well-known for its deer feeding station, and is a must for nature and animal lovers, the annual street festival "Spelle varn Schwelle" are just two highlights of this small community not to be missed.
In winter Wieda offers a beautiful Christmas atmosphere with their many Christmas trees along the street and on all four advent weekends Christmas Nativities and festive looking nativity scenes.
