The city of Seeland is located in the foreland of the Northern Harz and consists of the districts: Hoym, Friedrichsaue, Frose, Nachterstedt, Schadeleben and Gatersleben.
In Frose, the oldest part of the town of Seeland - first mentioned in 936, some buildings still bear witness to the former religious significance of this town. Particularly noteworthy is the Abbey Church built in 1170 with its basilica from the 12th century and a "Niedersächsischer Stützenwechsel"(square pillars alternating with round ones) in the Arkardenreihen (Arcade architecture). From 1515 to 1517, Thomas Müntzer worked here as Provost. The Collegiate Church is a historical monument and part of the "Romantic Road".
The district Hoym impresses with its Castle Portal, where Wilhelm von Kügelgen lived from 1836 to 1863 as chamberlain to the last Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg, and wrote his memoirs, which have been adopted in the German cultural heritage. Today, the castle serves as the home for disabled people. Also worth seeing are the Romanesque church with an altarpiece from the Cranach School and one of the best preserved water mills of Anhalt. At the heart of the town of Seeland and surrounded by all districts is the Harzer Seeland. Visitors can discover the progress of the investigation which is executed to determine the causes of the slope landslide of Nachterstedt. The operations can be best seen from the vantage point of the two drilling platforms in Schadeleben, which were built by a specialist firm. Unfortunately, not all areas are accessible at Concordia Lake again, but there are still many interesting and beautiful things to discover. The lakeside promenade invites hikers and cyclists to go on tours. The lookout points in Neu Königsau and Schadeleben are nice places to rest for a little while. Those who are interested in the native flora and fauna as well as in the local history will find plenty of information here. The adventure playground "Schmittis Adventure Land", with an area of 80,000 m² the largest in Saxony-Anhalt, is enjoying increasing popularity due to new playground equipment and holds many surprises until the end of the holiday period.
