Bad Lauterberg in the Harz

The friendly town in the south Harz

The state-approved health resort of Bad Lauterberg is surrounded by surging rivers, calm mountain lakes and fresh mountain air.

As the oldest health resort in Northern Germany, Bad Lauterberg offers holistic treatments such as Kneipp (named after Sebastian Kneipp) and Schroth (named after Johann Schroth). Several hospitals, sanatoriums and health resorts treat their guests with their own spa therapy facilities.

The spa park with its old trees, ponds, bandstand and adjacent historic 'Kurhaus' as well as the tourist information office invite you to stay. In the small town centre, you will find a pedestrian shopping street with boutique shops, quaint pubs, cafes and bistros.

Just outside the town, there are the Oder Reservoir and the Wiesenbeker lake, where you will find a vast network of hiking trails and the popular long distance walking trail, Harzer BaudenSteig, a Nordic walking park and access to the mountain-bike trails of the Volksbank Arena Harz.

Relaxation and adventure seekers will enjoy the Vitamar, an adventure pool for the whole family, with the largest wave pool in the Harz, various slides, lazy river, and a large sauna area. The Kirchberg Thermal spa, offers subtropical vegetation, water channels, thermal saltwater pools, freshwater lagoon bays and sun loungers.

If you prefer a little bit of culture, then discover the selection of museums in Bad Lauterberg such as the Local History Museum, the German Diabetes Museum, the historic show mine Besucherbergwerk Scholmzeche, and the South Harz Ironworks Museum.

In winter, enter the 47 kilometer-long cross-country ski trail network of the Southern Harz, which is located on the outskirts of the town, or enjoy a 200 to 300 meter long ski slope with ski lift on Mount Hausberg.
