Schulenberg in the Upper Harz
health resort by the Oker reservoir
The health resort Schulenberg was created in 1954 following the flooding of the villages Unterschulenberg and Mittelschulenberg, giving way to the new dam of the Oker reservoir. Since then the mysterious legend has it, that you can see the tip of the former church tower in the reservoir and hear the bells ringing.
The Oker Reservoir, one of the largest and most exquisite reservoirs, has just less than 2 square kilometres of water surface and a depth of up to 65 meters and is encompassed by a beautiful forest landscape. Various water sport opportunities are available, like sailing, swimming, surfing and canoeing. The Okersee cruise ship MS AquaMarin invites you all year-round for exciting boat trips across the Oker.
An insider’s tip is the mountain bike park “Bike-Alpinum Schulenberg” on the 645 meter high mountain meadow. The Bike Alpinum has next to the different slopes, a lift that brings the bikers and their bikes up the mountain. At the same time, you can enter from Schulenberg the mountain bike trails of the Volksbank Arena Harz.
Tennis, rock climbing and hiking in and around Schulenberg expand the possibilities of recreational activities.
Once the snow comes, winter sports fans meet in the Ski Alpinum Schulenberg, which has four ski runs, beginners slope, snowboarding park and two double lifts as well as maintained cross-country ski network.
