Wellness and hiking

Nature as far as the eye can see, varied hiking routes and a wide range of leisure experiences - Bad Harzburg has it all. Time to breathe deeply, recharge your batteries and relax.

Wellness and health
Bad Harzburg's brine spa is the ideal place to escape from everyday life and let yourself be pampered. Bathing pleasure in soothing and health-promoting natural brine, extracted from a depth of 840 metres, a sauna experience with eight different saunas, varied fitness courses and a beauty and wellness area, including a soothing Hamam ceremony, provide a personal relaxation programme. The Bad Harzburg springs not only have a healing effect externally. To invigorate body and soul, medicinal springs are served for drinking in the historic 'Wandelhalle' in the municipal spa park, which was built in the 19th century. Sip by sip to better health.

Experience Nature - the Harz Tree Top Trail
To experience Bad Harzburg and its nature from a completely new perspective, it is recommended to be free of giddiness. Just a few metres from Bad Harzburg's brine spa, a very special visitor attraction awaits the whole family, the  Harz Tree Top Trail. Located at the foot of the Castle Hill ('Burgberg'), directly in the Bad Harzburg spa park, the approximately 1,000-metre-long path starts and leads up to 26 metres in height through the ancient treetops of the Cold Valley. Visitors of all ages have the opportunity to gain a direct insight into the world of the treetops and its inhabitants on Lower Saxony's first and accessible treetop path. A total of 33 different adventure stations provide guests with interesting facts about the timber industry, nature and the environment. True to the motto: "Let's go! Up we go!".

Below the Harz Tree Top Trail, there is a tree-root path, which was created by the Lower Saxony State Forests to complement the attraction. This 800-metre-long trail explains the tasks and functions of the roots and their creatures, also with the help of experience stations.

Floating down the Castle Hill in serpentines
The new 'BaumSchwebeBahn' floats at a maximum speed of 12-15 km/h through the changing tree population of the Castle Hill and the Cold Valley to the far end of the Harz Tree Top Trail. Sitting in a harness, the latest attraction allows visitors to experience a flight over 1,000 metres down the Castel Hill with breathtaking views of the highest mountain in the Harz region, the Brocken.

Going up to the Historic Castle Hill
The Cable car in Bad Harzburg, built in 1929 and the only large cable car in Northern Germany, takes you up the Great Castle Hill. At 483 metres above sea level, you have a breathtaking view far into the foothills of the Harz Mountains. The Castle Hill also has great historical significance. Witnesses to past times, such as the remains of the old Harzburg, the Canossa Column and a historical circular trail bring the history of Bad Harzburg to light.

Ideal starting point for hikes
From the Castle Hill ('Burgberg') you can start your hikes to the Harz National Park. A total of 900 km of well-maintained hiking trails through fascinating nature are waiting to be discovered by hikers from near and far. The lynx enclosure with show feedings is just one of the many interesting stops on the tours through the surrounding forests. The newly designed themed trails "Luchstour", "Wildkatzenwandererlebnis", "Kästeklippentour", "Drei-Täler-Tour", "Rundweg Eckerstausee" and "Teufelsstieg" promise relaxed hikes along romantic streams, with many extraordinary insights and views into the special features of the Harz forests. Many cosy forest inns and charming rest areas invite you to take refreshment.

Take a stroll through the city of Bad Harzburg
At the foot of the Castle Hill ('Burgberg'), a walk in the spa park with its lynx fountain, multi-generational playground and Kneipp themed pool is recommended. The sun loungers and benches amidst the green spaces are an excellent place to switch off and enjoy the peace and quiet. Refuelled with new energy, the walk can be continued in the direction of "Bummelallee". Small shops and boutiques invite you to enjoy shopping here. Numerous cafés and restaurants in the midst of time-honoured chestnut trees also offer the opportunity to sample regional specialities and round off an eventful day.

Stay active in Bad Harzburg
An active holiday in Bad Harzburg can be arranged in many different ways. Whether Nordic walking, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian sports, golf, tennis or of course hiking - the list of possibilities is long. The sports park at the racecourse in particular stands for fitness. Nine signposted walking, Nordic walking and jogging routes, an outdoor fitness course, horse and beach sports as well as hockey and football and the lido 'Silberbornbad' can be found here. The heart of the sports park is the gallop racecourse, which is embedded in a beautiful landscape. The legendary Bad Harzburg gallop racing week, which takes place in July, attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.

There is power in tranquillity - the uniquely situated Golf Club Harz with its 18-hole course is often referred to as Bad Harzburg's "second spa park". A hilly landscape, an impressive old tree population and many interestingly designed water hazards characterise the atmosphere of this golf course, which has been in existence since 1972.

Family fun
Fun for the whole family is offered by the "Krodoland" leisure park with football and swin golf facilities as well as the lido 'Silberbornbad' with indoor and outdoor adventure pools, large outdoor facilities and saunas. The "Skyrope High Ropes Park" in the Cold Valley, on the other hand, is more adventurous. Here, young and old climbers can prove their skills at heights of 12 and 4 metres. A 12-hectare game reserve, the HarzWaldHaus, and the wildcat enclosure await nature and animal-loving families.

Events all year round
Throughout the year, numerous cultural and sporting events attract visitors to the town. Visitor magnets include the Bad Harzburg Horse Racing Week and the traditional Salt and Lights Festival. The Harz Tree Top Trail also offers a variety of different events.
