Stiege

Stiege is located in the middle of the Harz Mountains and surrounded by unique nature at an elevation of 500 m above sea level. The town's landmark is the picturesque ensemble of castle, bell house and church on a lake. As a junction of the 'Selketalbahn', a historic railway of the Harz Narrow-gauge Railways, partly operated by steam locomotives, Stiege has a unique and very special attraction in the form of the smallest reversing loop of a public railway in Europe, built in 1984.

Hikers and nature lovers appreciate Stiege for its beautiful nature, a 90-kilometre network of hiking trails, the start of the Selketal-Stieg trail and to the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg trail, only four kilometres away.

Two beautiful lakes in the village invite you to go fishing. Stiege also has a camping site in the direction of Hasselfelde. Other leisure facilities are the bowling alley and a children's playground.

In winter, Stiege invites visitors to discover the fairytale winter world of the Harz Mountains from its most beautiful side on groomed cross-country ski trails, a natural ice rink and various toboggan slopes.  Find out more about winter sports in Stiege here: wintersport.harzinfo.de.
