Güntersberge

Pearl of the Selke valley

The state-recognised resort of Güntersberge is a district of the town of Harzgerode and lies on the banks of the river Selke, directly on the route of the 'Selketalbahn', one of the most beautiful stretches of the Harz Narrow-Gauge Railways.

The 67km-long walking route 'Selketal-Stieg' takes hikers directly through the picturesque little town. With many other hiking and cycling opportunities, a nature trail with various lovingly designed information boards, as well as an idyllic mountain lake suitable for water sports with a large sunbathing meadow and the characteristic nature of the Harz Mountains, Güntersberge invites you to a relaxing but also eventful holiday. As a supplement to the nature trail, a permanent exhibition about the indigenous forest and its management is located in the "Alte Grundschule" ('Old primary school').

A special highlight is the extraordinary museum of mousetraps and curiosities. On display are all kinds of mouse traps, and rare utensils and other curiosities. You will also discover a "Gallery of Washrooms" a unique picture of this most human of all topics, unique in Germany.

In winter, cross-country ski tracks to explore the snowy winter woods are available.
